Solution: Regular Review of Your Financial Plan for Retirement
As Steve and Diane* enter a new stage of life and assess plans for retirement, their investing needs are changing. As a result, they're looking to the knowledgeable advice of an Investment Advisor. An experienced Investment Advisor will begin with a complete review of their financial situation and future goals. The results will put the Investment Advisor in a position to say whether or not Steve and Diane are on track to reach their retirement goals and also to educate them about the investing options available to them.

The review will include a retirement analysis, which may indicate if Steve and Diane might realize cash flow shortfalls during retirement. If yes, their Investment Advisor can suggest options for eliminating shortfalls, such as:

  • Increasing their rate of saving
  • Reducing their retirement expenditures
  • Retiring later than planned, or
  • Attempting to improve their rate of return

Their Investment Advisor will assist them in developing an investment plan, taking into account the asset mix most likely to help them reach their goals, their risk tolerance, diversification and tax-efficiency needs, and willingness to take part in investment decisions. If, for instance, they'd like to take a "hands-on" approach, their Investment Advisor may suggest more traditional investing in equities and bonds. If Steve and Diane indicate a preference for low involvement, the Investment Advisor may suggest a managed approach, available through programs such as BMO Nesbitt Burns Quadrant Program ® or BMO Nesbitt Burns Advance Program ®.

Critical illness is a specific issue that Steve and Diane want to address with their Investment Advisor. Diane wants to ensure that she and Steve are protected financially against such a crisis. A BMO Nesbitt Burns Investment Advisor can arrange for an Estate & Insurance Advisor to meet with Steve and Diane to discuss how critical illness insurance could be used to protect their retirement plan.

It is always important to review your financial circumstances, investment objectives and risk tolerance regularly. This is particularly true for Steve and Diane given that they'd like to be able to retire without worry at age 60.

If you’ve entered a new stage of life and want to ensure that you’re aware of and addressing relevant investment concerns, contact a BMO Nesbitt Burns branch near you or complete our simple online request form to have an Investment Advisor contact you directly.
